After 4 years of negotiations, UN decided to set up the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). With an approved budget of minimum $500m, the Agency will start working in the beginning of next year and unify four existing UN divisions dealing with women's issues.

Of the 736 MEPs elected, 35% are women. Thirteen of them are WiL members to which we send our best wishes. Be sure to count on our full support in addressing the “leaky pipeline” impeding many other women from moving up in their careers.

A recent EU Commission report shows that men have been affected by the downturn more than women, as sectors hit hardest are predominantly male-oriented. As a result, the previously significant gender gap in unemployment rates has disappeared.
