WIL Member Belen Garijo appointed Independent Member of the Board of Directors of BBVA

Ms. Belen Garijo Lopez, one of the most influential and most experienced professionals in the health sector, has been appointed Independent Member of the Board of Directors of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA, becoming the second woman to hold a seat on the board of the bank. The presence of women on the board of directors of BBVA is currently 14.2%.

Since the end of 2011, Belén Garijo, is Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer for Merck Serono.

Across her career, Belén has been awarded:

“Executive of the year” in Spain in 2006,
“Women leader” in 2007, and
elected “Directivo Plus” in 2008, this latest at the proposal of former collaborators
“Best CEO” award in 2009 by Expansíon & Empleo
