On the occasion of the International “Girls in ICT” Day on 25th April, the European Internet Foundation (EIF) and the European Commission hosted a joint lunch meeting in the European Parliament, followed by a hearing on “Women in ICT”. WIL members Sylvie Laffarge, Director of Corporate Affairs at Microsoft EMEA, and Afke Schaart, Senior Director of EU Institutional Relations at Microsoft, report from the event.

After a successful event in Brussels, the JUMP forum opened its doors on 23rd May in Paris. Individuals and organizations interested in debating the topic “Women and Men as allies for greater equality and performance” were invited to participate in a day full of lectures and workshops.

The seminar “A Case for EU Competitiveness – Quotas in the Boardroom”, hosted by WIL member and German MEP Silvana Koch-Mehrin at the European Parliament, focused on the Directive on gender quotas for non-executive directors, proposed by Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission.

On 5th April, WIL participated in the ELLE Active forum, organized by the women’s magazine ELLE France. This forum, targeted at professional women, set out to find solutions and give advice on how to work differently and, ultimately, better.

On 10th April, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) of the European Parliament gathered distinguished speakers to debate and question the future validity of our current economic model and to search for viable alternatives.

On 23rd April, for the second time ever, CONNECTING WoMEN agency organized Le Printemps du Networking, one of the largest encounters of professional networks for women in France.

WIL Members, Emerging Leaders and Friends of the network will meet this year on 14th June 2013 in Rome to discuss innovation and competitiveness in Europe. The event will be held at Palazzo Farnese and at the Villa Medici and an exciting program will be provided.

A second successful Women Talent Pool workshop took place on Friday, 22nd March at the premises of Microsoft France. It was led by Irène Papaligouras, founder of Leaders Excellence Partners, a strategic human resources start-up, focused on a predicative and proactive audit of leadership competencies. Under the motto “Mirror Yourself in Your Leadership Style”, nine Emerging Leaders participated in a session aimed at assessing and developing their specific leadership style.

Held for the first time in Germany, on 24th of November, WIL biannual event was held in a pro-European environment, where prominent speakers, WIL members, guests and members of the Network European Movement Germany, which partnered with us for this event, exchanged their views on the current status of European Union and discussed possible solutions to regain the European strength.

On 7th of December 2011, at Amcham’s offices, we had the pleasure to host yet another breakfast organized by the Women Leaders’ Taskforce, created through the joint effort of Amcham and WIL. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the current initiatives regarding financial regulation and the underlying challenges.

On 6 October, the European Network for Women in Leadership (WIL), in cooperation with Administration Moderne, the French association of female high civil servants and the American Chamber of Commerce in France held a high-level debate around the topic of governance. Over 70 high-profile attendees joined us at Swisslife Banque Privée to discuss and propose solutions to improve governance in the context of the financial crisis, which go beyond the sole use of quotas on Boards.

The issue of governance attracted over 60 participants to the WIL biannual meeting and its first general assembly, July 5. Event host CEO and Chairman of France Télécom Stéphane Richard, engaged in a dialogue on measures taken by his Board to establish a more gender-balanced leadership after the severe socio-economic crisis.
